Egyptian
style Belly dance
is a very feminine and graceful art
form and very user friendly. You don’t need to be
thin, young or naturally co-ordinated to try this form of
dance. Ladies of any age, any dress size and any fitness
level can gain so much from this form of exercise.
Belly dance comes with great music, exciting moves, noisy
coin belts and its own special dress code. It is a fun,
friendly, addictive way to exercise your body and your mind
and one thing is certain, belly dance classes are never
boring! You don’t need dance experience of any kind
to enjoy belly dance classes, you just need to start.
The great thing about belly dance is that it’s body
friendly and great emphasis is put on good posture, body
alignment and isolation, which makes it a very safe form
of exercise. The combination of natural fluid and percussive
movements also helps to improve muscle tone, suppleness
and joint mobility, which particularly benefits people with
lower back problems by strengthening the abdominal and pelvic
floor muscles and because it’s not a high impact exercise
it is also suitable for people with knee problems.
Belly
dance and Latin styles are similar in their use of fluid
and percussive movements generated in particular by the
abdomen and hips, which as in Belly dance goes to improving
suppleness and mobility of joints. Latin styles are varied
and can be slow and sensuous or upbeat and aerobic, giving
the dancer an extremely good work out.
Sandra’s
popular classes are designed to ensure that everyone, whatever
their dance capabilities, gets full enjoyment from their
dancing. Classes combine posture and body awareness exercises,
teaching of technique, use of props e.g. Veils, Assaya (sticks),
Fans, Boas and a broad range of dance skills all brought
together into fun and varied choreographies.
‘The
most important thing for me as a teacher is that everyone
has a good time and achieves what they want from the classes,
whether its to develop into performance or just for a social
bit of ‘me’ time. It never ceases to amaze me
how dance, empowers and enriches women, their confidence
grows week by week and they blossom into dancers, it’s
a joy to watch. I just love teaching a class of smiling
faces its brilliant!!‘
